I am both the employer and service user, who is in receipt of a direct payment to allow me the opportunity to employ a PA to assist and support me with social outings and companionship. I have a diagnosis of Cerebral Palsy, as of late this has progressed and I am now profoundly physically disabled, I am extremely sociable, intelligent and have no learning difficulties, however my speech has been greatly impacted due to my diagnosis and this has affected greatly on my ability to communicate effectively with those who don’t know me well, adding difficulties for others to at times understand what I am saying. This has affected my confidence when accessing social outings and events, however the support of a PA would minimise this for me and will allow me the opportunities to do the things I most enjoy. I am a wheelchair user and have access to both a manual and electric chair. My PA would be required to support all personal care elements, such as assistance with toileting, feeding etc.: I have a catheter fitted so someone with knowledge or experience in Catheter care would be desirable, however training can be provided if the job was offered. I enjoy the company of others and being busy, I have a good sense of humour and enjoy most things like going to the pub or out for meals, going to Sunderland football matches, attending quizzes and having a great love of music, so concerts and tribute events would be options for the sessions I attend with my PA. I have access to an adapted vehicle which would be available for outings if the PA was able to drive, however this is not essential. I am seeking a PA to offer companionship/friendship and assist and support me to access the community and social events. I am looking for a personal assistant to support me with my day to day care and support when accessing the community Duties will include: • Administering medication when required • Assisting me with personal care when out and about • Encouraging and supporting me at social activities and assistance to engage in my local community Such as: • Going to the pub • Sunderland Football matches • Quizzes/Quiz nights • Being out and about • Playing Dominos • Attending tribute bands/concerts as I have a great love of music • Accessing new opportunities and group events where I can meet new people and socialise with others I am looking for a personal assistant who has experience in the care sector. The candidate should show initiative and enthusiasm and have a good sense of humour and ability to engage and communicate effectively. I am looking for someone who is flexible, reliable and committed to providing consistency and care and someone with a caring nature and commitment to providing the care I require Due to the nature of the work for which you are applying, this post is subject to a satisfactory DBS disclosure (DBS process and costs will be covered by Sunderland council).
