We are delighted to announce the winners of our Beecham Family Award 2025. Gary Jones, our Chief Executive, shared the news at our Annual General Meeting on Wednesday 26th November. Our winners are:
Mary from Warwickshire (mobility trolley with brakes) David from Essex (meta glasses) Alice from Middlesbrough (annual cinema pass) Benjamin from Lincolnshire (Aerobility flight) Owen from Middlesbrough (accommodation during powerchair football tournament) Juliette from Lincolnshire (felting course) Daniel from Essex (powerlifting shirt) Barbara from Essex (pantomime visit) All winners have been notified and we are busy arranging delivery/booking of their items. Thank you for everyone who applied to the award this year. We know how much effort goes into the application form. The judging committee loved reading your stories and it was a very difficult decision for them. All unsuccessful applicants should have received an email or letter from us.
We do plan to run the award scheme again in 2026. Keep an eye out for information in the Autumn when applications open.
The Beechams were a family whose children, Julie and Jonathan, were supported over many years by Penderels Trust. Julie and Jonathan were born with cerebral palsy and were supported by the Trust to live full, independent lives. Jonathan passed away in 2000 and Julie lived until 2011. Following Jonathan's death, their parents, Terry and Jean, established an award in his honour which was given out each year to people with disabilities to improve the quality of their lives.
In 2018, following the deaths of Terry and Jean within a few months of one another, Penderels Trust received a bequest in their will in recognition of the work we have done with Jonathan and Julie. We have used this to set up a permanent fund which has allowed us to re-establish the Beecham Family Award.
The Beecham Family Award is a scheme open to anyone who uses Penderels Trust services. Awards will be made to cover the total cost of something that will improve wellbeing and independence up to a maximum of £500 per award. To continue Terry and Jean's legacy, we relaunched the award in 2022 and now run it every year. The next award will be open for applications in Autumn 2026.
