About the Employer

I am the employer and mother to my adult son who has been offered a direct payment for 4 hrs per week to allow him some time with a PA to access social activities, offer companionship and allow me a break from my caring role. My son is a 40 year old gentleman who lives with me full time - My son has a has a diagnosis of Autism, paranoid schizophrenia, Acrophobia and Learning Difficulties. My son expresses behaviours whereby he can be very obsessive over food and drinks and needs to have everything 'in 2's' i.e. 2 bottles of the same pop in one sitting. My son can become verbally aggressive to me however this has not been seen with others. My son and I are extremely isolated and I am unable to leave him unattended. He becomes extremely anxious and upset if I leave the house and this results in me also not being able to take time aware or do general tasks such as shopping, going to appointments etc: and have limited support networks, relying on online shopping or on neighbours to bring in items that my son is demanding at that time. My son takes time to gain trust in others and will communicate on his own terms, he loves all sports and watches football etc: on TV most of the day, this is a subject he will engage in and a good way to break the ice when around him. The PA 1:1 to support for my son is required to help build his confidence with new people, while slowly encouraging him to access the community. It is hoped that the PA support will provide my son with he confidence and the skill to leave the family home for activities and eventually visit and view potential properties in the near future. My son also enjoys spending time in the garden and wishes to be supported to help manage his weight by becoming more active.
