About the Employer

I am the employer and sister to my brother who has been allocated a direct payment, to support with social activities, companionship and outings My brother lives within a residential care provision and has a diagnosis of dementia. He lacks insight into risks, he believes he can go out alone however lacks road safety awareness, unable to problem solve and has issues with spatial/ depth perception due to dementia. My brother has always been very independent and due to changes as a result of his Dementia is struggling to come to terms with requiring support. I am seeking a PA to become a companion and build a friendship with him, so he is more accepting of the support available to him, which will enable him to access interests and activities outside of his home. I am looking for a second PA to compliment another PA in place, someone PA with a good level of fitness as my brother remains physically fit & active. He has a keen interest in a number of sports and activities, so knowledge & experience of hiking, cycling, motorcycling would be beneficial as used to participate in these frequently. My brother has become very isolated and this has impacted on his mood and mental health. Support would be expected to start slowly and the PA would be required to initially visit my brother in his apartment and gradually build a relationship, with a view to moving out into the community. He has declined support to go out previously with care home staff as doesn’t see the need of being accompanied, however may respond if he can develop a relationship with someone based on a mutual interest Summary of duties I am seeking someone to build a friendship and trusting relationship and support my brother in his chosen activities such as:- • Walking • trying new things • someone to provide companionship and a trusting friendship. • someone to offer support and to encourage social opportunities. • someone to assist my brother in developing his life skills. • someone to promote opportunities to help my brother develop friendships with others. My brothers needs may vary from day to day and your tasks may reflect this. You could be required to perform other duties as reasonably required.
