Services in Sheffield

If you receive a direct payment, you can purchase support services to help make managing your care much easier. The amount of money you will have to spend on these support services will depend on your assessment. Please talk to the person who does your assessment or care plan about how much money you will receive. There may be a few organisations who can offer the services you need and you can choose between them.

Penderels Trust supports adults and children who receive a direct payment in the city to get the most out of their care money and to achieve their goals.  Our support services include:

  • Support with setting up your direct payment 
  • Support when recruiting a personal assistant 
  • Guidance on all aspects of being a good employer including legal obligations and responsibilities 
  • Support with choosing and using a care agency 
  • Help with money management and keeping accurate records 
  • Payroll services at competitive rates 
  • Financial support services including managed accounts 

Special Olympics National Summer Games in Sheffield

Sheffield is gearing up for the Special Olympics National Summer Games 2017 which is being held from 7th to 12th August. There are lots of ways you could get involved:

  • Come and watch the opening ceremony on Tuesday 8th August at Sheffield United Football Club.  Visit www.sufc.co.uk/special-olympics to order tickets.
  • Watch the sports from Tuesday 8th to Friday 11th August.  There are 20 sports including badminton, basketball, athletics and aquatics.  Visit the official website at http://sheffield2017.org.uk/sports/ and click on the link under 'Sports Schedule' to find out what is going on and when.
  • Try out sports in the Activity Festival on Wednesday 9th August.  This is open to people with learning disabilities aged 11+ and their friends and family. 
  • Experience the Special Olympics Fringe.  There will be lots of things going on in the town centre, highlighting the talents of Sheffielders with learning disabilities and the creativity of some great local organisations.
