About the Employer

I am a young woman with Asperger’s Syndrome, who wishes to employ a Personal Assistant/Carer to support me with my life style and daily living tasks. I need support to enable me to live as independently as possible and fulfil my aspirations.  
My interests include going to yoga, the cinema and other socializing/days out.  I do have a cat, and will need support to attend veterinary appointments. You will need a clean driving licence as I may need transport to access activities with own vehicle and business insurance. A friendly nature and good verbal communication skills will be useful as I sometimes struggle with communicating and stating what help I need. 
Knowledge of autism and working in social care will be useful. 
Highlighted training could be provided but previous care experience is required and you must be of a caring nature. The position will be subject to an enhanced DBS check. 
The ideal candidate will be adaptable and flexible with their working time and hours and be able to react to shift cover needs where other P.A’s fall ill or are on annual leave. You will need to be mindful of where I am at all times and be able to take things at my relaxed pace. 

Summary of Duties

  • Your specific responsibilities will depend on the hours you work and what part of my daily routine this covers. For example you may be asked to:
  • Take me food shopping. 
  • Take me to doctor’s appointments/pick up prescriptions 
  • Complete Time Sheets 
  • Be prepared to undertake moving and handling, emergency first aid at work, and health and safety training,  and learn new skills where necessary 
  • Support me to cook healthy nutritious meals   
  • Drive and escort me to my engagements and activities and assist me in accessing facilities outside my home in the day or evening
  • Support me to live a fulfilling life and realise my aspirations
  • Communicate effectively
  • Treat my home with care and respect  
  • Listen patiently and respectfully  
  • Carry out any other reasonable requests I may make
  • To respect my privacy whilst being aware of the need for confidentiality in all aspects of your work  
  • To perform any other duties as is reasonably required.

The Person They Are Looking For

  • Experience of working in the care sector is desirable but not necessary, as training can be provided 
  • Be a careful and conscientious driver 
  • Be team minded 
  • Be flexible, accepting that working hours will vary and occasionally  
  • Be willing to help where possible to cover for a shift in an emergency 
  • Be comfortable around pets
  • Reliable, punctual and take responsibility in all your tasks 
  • Be capable of taking instructions from me, my parent and Lead PA.
  • Be capable of using your time efficiently when I am not in need of personal support 
  • Be open-minded and interested in learning new skills and new ways of working
  • Be honest and trustworthy in all your undertakings
  • Be capable of confidentiality, privacy and respectful towards all team members 
  • Be well mannered and discreet
  • Communicate with thoughtfulness and clarity and be a patient listener 
  • Learn to be aware of how my physical needs change and my energy levels fluctuate 
  • Have a positive and encouraging mind-set   
  • Enable me to be independent and respect my personal space
