I am a young man with Asperger’s Syndrome and require support to access social activities whilst building my confidence and social interaction skills.
At home I spend some leisure time, listening, playing and dancing to music, I play the guitar and keyboards and I like watching television, watching a mix of movies and current affairs which I like to keep up-to-date with.
The main purpose of the role is to support me to access social activities such as meals out, going to the cinema, attending discussion groups and going to music events.
You will also provide companionship when I’m at home enjoying my leisure activities.
I also require cover for annual leave for other staff where duties would include domestic tasks, mainly:
assisting me with paperwork
accompanying me to go shopping
The person I am looking for should:
be fun with a good sense of humour
be sensitive, respectful and insightful
be honest and reliable
understand the importance of providing support that enables and encourages me, doing tasks with me rather than for me
be able to demonstrate a full understanding of the importance of confidentiality
be aware that dust can aggravate my asthma
Previous experience in a care role is not essential. Autism training is desirable but not essential as training will be provided.
Due to the nature of the work for which you are applying, this post is subject to a satisfactory DBS disclosure (costs will be covered)
Car owner and full valid driving license desirable but not essential (business insurance required)
10 hours per 4 week pay period
Some additional hours are available for longer sessions/additional sessions which will always be mutually agreed in advance.
Support required is on a casual basis to allow flexibility on both sides but will generally be required on evenings and weekends on a fortnightly basis, each shift being a maximum of 5 hours – this can be discussed further at interview.
