I am a young man and I live in the family home supported by my parent. I am looking to recruit a Personal Assistant/s to support me to attend social activities (my personal assistant may need to liaise with venues regarding free companion tickets wherever possible), support to attend medical appointments.
I am mobile and seizure free from epilepsy following major surgery in 2015.
My interests are using my IPad, reading books listening to music. On occasions I will want to go out into the community to visit friends and go to places of interest to me.
As my personal assistant your job will entail domestic and social support. My family and I will be responsible for organising the assistance I require, so I am hoping to employ PA’s who will support me to maintain my independence.
You must be reliable, sensitive, supportive, patient, good sense of humour, sensible in a crisis, use your own initiative, and maintain my safety at all times.
Any training required can be provided for the successful applicant.

Ensuring that I am comfortable in my surroundings.
Companionship and engaging in my chosen activities- these will need to be planned/agreed in advance and adhered to with my personal assistant being pro-active and discussing options at all times.
Accessing the community which sometimes includes driving me to my chosen destination- Travel training will become a very important part of my support.
There will possibly be use of a motability vehicle in future.
When a P.A is using their own vehicle there will be a requirement to have need business insurance as an add-on to their driving insurance.
Ensuring my safety at all times.
Support with preparation of drinks and snacks as I need to be reminded to drink regularly to keep hydrated.
Encouragement to eat healthy meals – I have no known allergies.
Observing whilst I eat as my food will need to be bite-size.
Encouragement to take part in activities.
Good communication skills to assist in communication with others.
Patience at all times to allow me to express myself and communicate with you and others; this will allow me process the information given to me and respond without the need for prompts or suggested answers.
Non-smoker whilst at work.
Awareness and previous experience of Hemiplegia is preferred but not essential.
A clean driving licence and access to own vehicle, some mileage allowance may be payable.
The ability to engage in activities I am interested in.
Be honest, reliable and trustworthy.
Able to work flexibly and follow instructions.
Good verbal communication skills.
Experience of delivering of delivering support to vulnerable people.
Good sense of humour.
Knowledge and understanding of issues relating to young people with a disability.
Ensure my needs are met through planning and reviewing.
To ensure my safety at all times.
You will also need to respect my privacy and have an understanding of confidentiality in all areas of your work.
Be a non-smoker whilst at work.
The job will require an enhanced DBS disclosure/check–employer may consider current DBS disclosure if submitted.
Health & Safety
You have a responsibility as an Employee to report all accidents to the employer immediately. You must record all details in the accident book.
You have a duty to report defects and /or hazards which may give rise to an accident.
