The young man is aged 14 and requires assistance mainly by way of prompting to do things. He enjoys watching DVD’s, listening to music and going out for walks. He enjoys going to the Gym and doing training. He requires 1-1 support as he has no sense of danger. He loves to help around the home.
He has Downs Syndrome. He has issues with his speech but mostly can be understood. He uses Makaton but also with use gestures or show you when you do not understand what he is saying.
He has a loving nature.
The role is to accompany and support the young man to access a wide variety of social and recreational activities within the local community.
The personal assistant will act as a role model for the young man and support him to develop socially appropriate behaviour's outside of the home and school environment.
The support will also allow the young man to have opportunity to develop his communication skill set
Previous experience of working with children, particularly supporting children with a disability would be an advantage.
They will need to be patient, trustworthy and reliable.
They will need to have a full driving license and use of their own vehicle and have class 1 business insurance included on your insurance.
An offer of employment will be subject to reference checks and a DBS check (police check)
To be mutually agreed between employer and employee for the 6 hours per week.
I also need support for him in the morning between 8 and 9, and 3.45 – 6.00 Monday to Friday. I will make additional hours available outside the direct payments scheme.
