I am currently recruiting for a Personal Assistant for my 6 year old son who is full of life and loves to play. He is a very loveable boy with a very joyful personality.
My son has Down Syndrome which makes every-day tasks difficult for him. He has no sense of danger or risk and so requires constant supervision.
The main purpose of the role is to become not only a supervisor, but also a buddy for him. He will need accompanying to certain places such as parks/recreation areas and will also need someone to participate in these activities with him and encourage him to try new things within his capabilities.
The right candidate will also undertake tasks within the home which may be day-to-day activities or related to creativity and play.
The right candidate will have experience of being around children. (Experience of children with Down Syndrome will be a distinct advantage)
The Personal Assistant needs to be able to deal with challenging behaviour but also be empathetic to his lack of understanding in certain situations.
The right person will spend time getting to know him and his personality in order to build a trusting relationship, so they need to be patient and kind, with a willingness to learn.
A good attention to detail is essential to ensure his safety at all times.
Due to the nature of the work for which you are applying, this post is subject to a satisfactory DBS disclosure (costs will be covered)
Days and time are negotiable and are to be agreed with the successful candidate.
