Support Worker

Location: Lea Gainsborough, East Rate of Pay: £10.00 per hour

Hours per Week: 10 hours per week

Job Reference: LS1886 Expires: 23rd January 2018

About the Employer

I am a 21 year old male with cerebral palsy. I am an intelligent guy with lots of interests including photography, gardening and horse riding.  I enjoy reading about gardening, farming, tractors and other machinery and love riding any machines I get the opportunity to.  I can walk on my own but I use a wheelchair when I am out and about as my balance isn’t great and I may fall.  I get frustrated sometimes especially if plans change or if I am feeling upset about something and struggle to express this.

Summary of Duties

Going into the community with me so I can access activities I may enjoy and where I can meet other people. This will involve driving my automatic wheelchair accessible vehicle (therefore needs to be over 25 years old).

Working with my occupational therapist, case manager and my parents, who are helping me to keep busy and find activities I can enjoy.

Listening to me if I am upset about anything and helping me to stay calm if I start to show signs of frustration.

Keeping me safe in the community.

Preparing snacks and drinks for me.

The Person They Are Looking For

I am looking for someone who is pro-active, has lots of interests, a good sense of humour and who I can laugh with, whilst being kind, caring, patient and sensitive to my needs without being patronising. The person must be flexible with the hours they work as they may change each week.   A DBS check is required for this post.
