About the Employer

I am a local woman, living with a disability which at times can be a challenge but on the whole I have a full, happy and active life.  I live in Bulkington with my husband and am assisted by my excellent team of support workers.  I am currently looking to recruit another member of staff to join my team for the above hours. Your main duties will be to be supportive in and around the kitchen. Supporting and assisting me in preparing nutritional evening meals. Finding new and trying new recipes. I also have a love of baking, although my husband says he is better than me… I would love to improve the skills I have. My home, my family, my friends and my staff are very important to me and enable me to live a full life.

Due to the nature of my illness “Multiple Sclerosis” I am no longer able to complete my personal care or daily living tasks. I am a wheelchair user and   enjoy getting out and about and meeting new people.

As my personal assistant your job may entail some personal, domestic and social support. I organise all the assistance I require, so I am hoping to employ PA’s who will support me to maintain my independence and access the community. Due to the intimate nature of some of the help I require, I would prefer that my assistance is given by a woman who must be reliable, sensitive, supportive, patient, good sense of humour, and who can use their own initiative.

Summary of Duties

My Personal Assistant will be expected to carry out the following duties:

  • To facilitate and support in decision making, planning, promoting choice, involvement and control.
  • Ensuring support needs are met through planning and reviewing.
  • Participation in domestic support. Meal planning, research new recipes assisting with all food preparation, cooking and serving.
  • Interact and participate with the development of self-help skills, supporting to maintain independence.
  • Light household tasks
  • Personal care – assistance require with catheter care.
  • Hoist will need to be used for transfers when supporting personal care and at bedtimes.
  • A willingness to travel to support the delivery of the individuals needs.
  • To ensure the safety of the individual at all times.
  • To complete and maintain accurate timesheets/mileage sheets
  • You have a responsibility as an Employee to report all accidents to the employer immediately.  You must record all details in the accident book.
  • You have a duty to report defects and / or hazards which may give rise to an accident.
  • Some knowledge of Multiple Sclerosis would be an advantage. Any training issues will be discussed with the successful applicant, depending on their skills and experience.
  • Contingency plans have to be arranged by myself therefore in the event of annual leave or sickness periods PA’s may be asked to cover fellow employees.
  • Enabling me to carry out any chosen activity whether inside or outside my home, by carrying out any other requests which I may reasonably make

The Person They Are Looking For

  • DBS check required- cost met by local authority
  • Good written and verbal communication skills-with an understanding of MS preferred but not essential
  • To understand the principles of empowerment and the ability to support in exercising choice and control
  • Ability to communicate with people at all levels
  • Ability to work unsupervised and with their own initiative
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Experience of delivering personal care
  • Knowledge of the needs of vulnerable people
  • Good listening skills
  • Good sense of humour.
  • Knowledge and understanding of issues relating to older people.
  • A commitment to a service which provides support which is respectful and according to my wishes.
  • Commitment to anti-oppressive and non-discriminatory practice
  • Ensure needs are met through planning and reviewing
  • To ensure my safety of the individual at all times.

The Times Required

Monday to Friday: 8:30 pm to 9:30 pm

Saturday: 8:00 am to 11:00 am
