I am a 17-year-old male with Dystonic Cerebral Palsy, severe learning disability and Autism. I live on the outskirts of Worcester with my parents. I am energetic and enthusiastic. I use a self propelling wheelchair and sometimes my walking frame. I move around independently on my hands and knees. I communicate through speech and with a communication aid. I display both affectionate and challenging behaviour.
Assisting me with my activities and routine within my home. This will include play activities (I love my iPad, being sung to, my swing and trampoline), supporting me with the use of my communication aid, meal times (basic food preparation), showering, toileting, settling to sleep etc. Going on outings with either my Mum or another carer and me. I enjoy swimming, going to parks, having picnics, going to shops, garden centres and cafes. (Any entrances and refreshments would be paid for).
I would like someone who is calm, patient and willing to take time to listen to me and understand my communication so that all my needs may be met.
It is important that the personal assistant is hardworking, reliable, committed, honest and trustworthy with a good sense of humour.
Experience of dealing with someone with a physical disability, learning disability, autism and challenging behaviour is desirable but training can be provided.
Someone who is able to administer medication and has a first aid certificate or is willing to undergo training.
Happy to work alongside others as I need two carers to support me.
A driver with the ability to transport yourself to and from our home.
An enhanced disclosure criminal records bureau check will be required.
Working on an as and when basis. This will be evenings, weekends and in the school holidays.
The paid holiday entitlement is 5.6 weeks pro rata.
