Job Reference: SUN1429876SS3 Expires: 2nd July 2018
I am looking for a personal assistant to work with my 12 year old daughter who has Cerebral Palsy Quadriplegia (which means that all four limbs are involved). “Cerebral palsy is the name for a group of lifelong conditions that affect movement and co-ordination, caused by a problem with the brain that occurs before, during or soon after birth” (NHS).
My daughter is doubly incontinent and is 100% reliant on other people to assist her with all aspects of personal care. A hoist is used to move her, which is why the role is to work alongside another worker on a 2:1 basis. My daughter does not like change, so someone who has the ability to put her at ease is essential. For the right person, this will be a very rewarding job.
Morning call (1 hour)
To wake her up, assist her to get ready and have breakfast before she goes to school or on a weekend just getting her ready for her day.
Evening call (1 hour)
Showering and assisting with getting ready for bed.
I am looking for someone who is understanding and caring with a kind nature to support my daughter in a respectful friendly manor. She appreciates people who are bubbly in nature and whom make the effort to have conversations with her, talking to her and being interested, not just talking at her telling her what to do (which has previously been an issue for her in the past). It is important that the PA is able to understand the importance of building a good working relationship with her, so that she feels at ease and not embarrassed.
Past experience in a caring role is desirable but not essential.
Someone who is reliable, honest and passionate about supporting people to get the most out of their lives would best suit this role.
Experience with using hoists would be desirable but training can be offered. Moving and Handling and First Aid Training would also be advantageous.
Due to the nature of the work for which you are applying, this post is subject to a satisfactory DBS disclosure (costs will be covered).
